What is the role?

Thinking about life after school or perhaps a change in career? Maybe you enjoy fixing things or prefer being outdoors and doing hands-on practical work? Perhaps you are looking for an opportunity to learn a new skill? This Apprenticeship Programme offers you the chance to earn whilst you learn new skills. You will be provided with the opportunity to achieve a formal City & Guilds Electrical Power Engineering qualification, whilst gaining valuable work experience.

This is a three-year programme combining academic study (20%) with work-based experience (80%). You will repair equipment of the electricity network, replace equipment as part of a maintenance programme, replacement of broken or work parts, adjustment, servicing and checking components.

You will be supported throughout your programme by a wide number of colleagues including mentors, Learning and Talent support staff and business operational colleagues. You will be provided with on-the-job training and supported by our academic training partners. Our apprentices attend college on a block release basis and can be away from home for short periods of time. You will be supported fully during this time.

By the end of your apprenticeship, you will have formal qualifications and accreditations that will offer you the opportunity to build a rewarding and successful career in the energy sector. Sustainability underpins everything we do so we believe in making the most of our most valuable assets - our people - and supporting them to be their best.  With a carefully designed development programme, you will have everything you need to progress your SSE career as far as you want to go.

What do I need?

We're looking to recruit the best future talent for our sector – and we know that it’s not all about qualifications. We're more interested in your innate strengths and the qualities you can bring to SSE. You don't need any experience to apply; you just need to:

- Have an interest in the work we do at SSE

- Have an appreciation of our core values, particularly safety and the desire to do well

- Enjoy working as part of a team

- Be interested in engineering and how things work

- Enjoy working outside and with your hands

The Apprenticeships and Trainee opportunities | Early careers at SSE page on the early carers website will give an overview of the 4 stage recruitment process (at the bottom of the page). We encourage all candidates to complete the 4 stage process before applying.
