NHS Grampian – Dr Gray’s Hospital

What did you want to do when you were in Secondary School as a career?

Left school to attend University and hoped to teach History and Modern Studies within a secondary school.

What subjects did you enjoy in Secondary School/College?

History, Modern Studies, Biology and Computer Studies

Why did you decide to do an Apprenticeship?

As I withdrew from my studies at University I felt that I would like a qualification further than ECDL to back up my knowledge and capabilities in my current job role as Medical Secretary.

What did/do you enjoy most about your Apprenticeship?

I am just currently about to begin my course again after changing assessors and I am looking forward to making progression and seeing my Folio take shape.

Were there any entry requirements for your Apprenticeship?

The level of Apprenticeship I am undertaking was decided on based on my SCQF levels attained at school. I had originally signed up to undertake the SVQ Level 2 course, but was later contacted and asked if I would prefer to proceed with the SVQ Level 3 course.

What advice would you give to anyone else considering an Apprenticeship?

I have not done much official coursework as yet but I am hoping my Apprenticeship will give me a great sense of achievement. I would say if you are even considering it a little make contact with your manger to discuss options as it should definitely benefit your career.
