Lori Mone, Early Years Modern Apprentice, Lhanbryde Nursery
“I completed the foundation apprenticeship in 6th year, completing it in one year rather than two. This enabled me to get on the job experience along with a recognised qualification. Having the FA gave me the confidence to apply for the modern apprenticeship through Moray Council.
From being on placement at Curious Minds and working at Lhanbryde nursery, I have gained multiple skills and knowledge. I have been able to see the ways in how individual children learn and respond to different tasks and how the children learn from each other. I have gained essential skills while training on the job and it is great to learn while performing the job as I am a visual learner.
I want to work in early years as I am interested in the development of children and the progression that is seen while they are continuing through their nursery career. I think it is very important that the children have the best experience in nursery as it gives them the foundation to their school years.
I hope to become a fully qualified practitioner at the end of my modern apprenticeship and would like to work towards becoming a senior practitioner.
I think the apprenticeship is a great way to make your way into early learning career. You are getting hands on experience while learning at the same time. Completing my foundation apprenticeship before moving onto the modern apprenticeship gave an insight into early years and made me decide that I wanted to continue a career with children.
I would definitely recommend completing a foundation apprenticeship at school as it gives you life experience along with attending college. This secures a qualification which can be used in your further education or in working life.”
