Name and position title
Chris Dick, Business Advisory Assistant Manager at Johnston Carmichael Chartered Accountants.
How would you explain your job to people not from your industry? And how does it fit within (Company) bigger picture.
In my role as a Business Advisory Assistant Manager, I report directly to one of the partners in the firm and ensure that both the compliance and advisory needs of the client are met.
These clients vary extremely from small start- ups to large and well- established business and I can be involved in the preparation of Statutory accounts through to assisting with providing Corporation Tax, VAT and Personal Tax advice.
What makes it exciting working in your industry overall?
Across our firm we work within a number of different sectors from Agriculture, Oil and Gas to Hospitality & Tourism.
This diversity provides you with a great variety of work and means that no two days are the same. Further more due ever changing regulations you are continually learning and adapting to the changes within the industry.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The thing I enjoy most about my job is working with my colleagues in different departments, generally these departments specialise in certain areas such as Corporation Tax or VAT. This provide me with the opportunity to increase my knowledge and experience in these areas whilst advising the client.
How do you think other people see your strengths and your contribution at work overall? What qualities might you be known for?
Having ask around the office after receiving these questions, the most common attributes that I was described as having were that I am approachable, committed and hard working.
What's a big challenge for you right now, or perhaps one for your industry?
At present I would say the biggest challenge for me is starting to study again for my ATT exams after having some time off since completing my ACCA exams and of course a Christmas break.
What outside interests might you have?
My interest outside of work is following Rangers Football Club, I try to get down to as many games as possible in a season, which saves shouting at a TV screen.
I enjoy trying to keep fit and recently took part in the Banchory Beast race with a few of my work mates.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Driven, Conscientious and Confident
