I and eleven other people started a course in Photography, with DYW Moray and Gary Murison on Fridays. We all want to do something in photography in the future.
The aim of the course is to interview and take photographs in a workplace in Moray. I wanted to find out more about the hospitality industry in Moray as it is quite popular industry in Moray. We are near some beautiful scenery and close to Inverness and Aberdeen.
The course started on Friday 21st September at 3pm so about 2hrs after school until 5pm the course ran for four weeks. We got to learn a lot about working in photography and working in journalism. On our final week we went out to the cooper park and took photos in pairs. Alana and I went beside the cathedral and started chucking leaves about and just having fun we even went to the play park and went on the swings and the zip slide.
On the 1st November I went to The Royal Hotel where I met Avril Main who is the Manager’s mum - who has been working for The Royal Hotel for a year and 6 months. Avril mostly enjoys working with the customers. Working as part of The Royal Hotel there are many tasks involved like waiting tables, housekeeping, making the food, serving the food and many other tasks that are involved with a hotel. Avril would recommend working in The Royal Hotel, but you must be flexible, be able to work under pressure and make sure everything is perfect and the same for every customer. Avril’s favourite dish at the Royal Hotel is Cajun Pasta with a white wine.
The Royal Hotel was previously a private house, the annex was built in the 70s. The Royal Hotel is family run but does employ other people such as school kids - there is 15 members of staff. The Royal hotel does get returning customers such as some business and holiday makers as they love the amazing customer service provided by the staff. As the holiday season might quiet down it is never predictable as there could be people coming for New Year. The Royal Hotel is only closed on Christmas Day.
Staff at The Royal Hotel are given a 20% discount if they have any food or drink for them and family. The hotel only has 18 rooms and is a licenced premise, so it can sell alcohol to customers in the bar. The Royal hotel has its own hotel where you can book one of their rooms https://www.theroyalhotelelgin.co.uk/en-GB/homepage.
