Four Nursery Teachers

December 14, 2018

Earthtime have been delivering interactive, outdoor nature-based sessions to children across Moray aged 1 to 8 for the last five years.  Earthtime provides a safe, secure outdoor environment where the children are free to explore, play and investigate supported by experienced and enthusiastic practitioners.

It is essential that their staff are qualified and experienced in early years and passionate and dedicated to outdoor learning.  The Nursery look for staff to pass on their enthusiasm and love of nature to the next generation.  Lucy Monteith said,

“It’s magical being outside all day!  Everyone is always laughing and having fun as every day there is always something exciting.  It is definitely a special and unique place to work.”

Key responsibilities in which the nursery practitioners must carry out are:

  • To ensure the provision is of the highest quality, providing a safe, stimulating and child-centred environment catering for the children’s educational and developmental needs.

  • To help with the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage using the Forest School approach as the basis for learning through play.

  • To act as the key person to a small group of children, promote and maintain partnerships with parents/carers and other family members.

  • To keep up to date with current developments in childcare and education policies and practices.

  • Be familiar with Earthtime’s policies and procedures and work with the manager to keep these up to date.

  • To ensure the highest standards of hygiene in the outdoor nursery.

  • To plan and facilitate activities

  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Nursery Manager

Earthtime Nursery look for employees with significant experience in childcare.  If you are considering a job in this sector it’s a great idea to undertake work experience with children as it will increase your chances in receiving a job.  Earthtime staff all have a love for the outdoors.  Along with being prepared to spend most days outdoors they will also need:

  • A sound knowledge of childcare development from two to five years.

  • A knowledge and understanding of research related to childcare and education.

  • An understanding of a play-based approach to children’s learning and development.

  • As an excellent communicator, you will need to be versatile with energy and be passionate and dedicated about Outdoor Learning.

Alan McConnell who completed a Modern Apprenticeship with Earthtime Nursery said,

“I just love my job and I find it very rewarding watching the children grow and see how they play and interact with each other at such a young age.  I’ve done many different jobs and this one is the most rewarding so follow what you think is the best path for you.”
