Springfield Properties have been around since 1956, moved into house building in the early 1990s and has been growing steadily ever since.
Over many years the successful local business has offered various Modern Apprenticeships opportunities and in 2015 reached their target of having apprentices form 10% of their workforce.
Ally Bellingham, 22 – from Lossiemouth, Moray undertook a Joinery Modern Apprenticeship with Springfield Properties. Ally always planned to become a Joiner in School and ruled out any other career paths for his love for crafts.
In 2012, after leaving Lossiemouth High School at the end of his 4th Year, Ally decided to apply and study at Moray College UHI the SCQF Level 5 Built Environment course, involving learning different aspects of different trades such as: Plumbing, Electrical and Joinery. The course allowed Ally to know for sure that Joinery was the career he wanted to pursue, and it did exactly that.
Within the course Ally had to complete a work placement at Springfield Properties which he thoroughly enjoyed. It gave him a great insight into the Construction industry and again reinforced his plan to become a local joiner.
To Ally’s delight he was offered a Joinery Apprenticeship with Springfield Properties.
So, at the young age of 17, Ally started his 4-year Modern Apprenticeship. In June 2017, he completed it and is now a fully qualified Joiner with Springfield Properties.
“I never really enjoyed studying so I knew university wasn’t for me. I would definitely recommend to other young people - a modern apprenticeship as I got to learn hands on. From my experience I’ve not only learned my trade, but I’ve also built greatly on my confidence and feel much more comfortable socially.”
Ally is a great example on following his dream to become a joiner from a young age. Moray College UHI offer a great range of qualifications that can help you begin your Career journey. Many of these can be found here - https://www.moray.uhi.ac.uk/courses/.
