Walkers Shortbread presented to P5, P6 and P7's this morning at Aberlour Primary School, giving the children an idea of what is involved in the business.
Jill Armitt and Louise Brown from Walkers discussed the organisation's history and asked the pupils questions on what site rules and workers rights are. Furthermore, Jill and Louise led a number of activities regarding Hygiene and the importance of hand washing and wearing protective clothing in the factory. The pupils then got to try on the protective clothing.
Jill and Louise also discussed the various aspects of Walkers' production from beginning to end and allowed the pupils to try some ingredients and handle some raw dough. The pupils really enjoyed this.
Finally, the children had to match a job role to a department in an activity which highlighted the differing careers at Walkers.
DYW Moray believe this is a great example of engaging with the local primary school pupils, helping them understand the various careers offered in Moray and in this case within Walkers. DYW Moray hope that these engaging exercises are adopted by other local businesses to drive children towards a better understanding of potential career paths from a young age.
