Yesterday, at the 'Meet the Apprentice' Event for Moray Business Week, the DYW Moray team, local employers and Skills Development Scotland (SDS) came together to meet a number of apprentices in the local area. The event was hosted by Forsyths in Rothes, Moray.
The event began with SDS educating the audience on the current on goings with the various apprenticeship offerings in Scotland.

Thereon, a workshop was undertaken whereby each of the apprentices spoke to each table which hosted the local employers, SDS representatives and the DYW Moray team. Each of the tables discussed the differing experiences of each apprentice including the benefits, success stories and any improvements required. Employers were able to also ask other employers who were currently involved in Modern Apprenticeships and how this benefited them. Finally, SDS were on hand to provide any support required for local businesses looking to employ an Apprentice.
Each apprentice had a different story to tell varying in ages and roles.

To end the event, Sandy Young, 28 from Buckie, Moray who is an apprentice at Baxters Food Group as a Customer Service Advisor spoke about how his journey benefited his personal circumstances and the organisations requirements. Sandy conveyed that he was pleased to find that what he thought were his weaknesses became his strengths and highlighted that some of his originally believed strengths required improvement. This portrayed the real benefits to the young people in the area in being employed as an Apprentice.

Overall, the event was very successful and it was greatly beneficial for the DYW team to be able to learn from the apprentices' experiences. Furthermore, being able to gage the interaction between the local employers and the apprentices was helpful to understand what they are looking to achieve from one another.
DYW Moray hopes to promote apprenticeships throughout Moray in hope that further young people in the area obtain the benefits from this career path.
